Job title: Canada Research Chair in Mine Water Management and Stewardship

Bio:

As a Canada research chair in mine water management and stewardship at the University of British Columbia, Dr Kunz develops mathematical models and decision-making frameworks to mitigate water-related risks in mining regions from diverse stakeholder perspectives, including companies, governments, communities and investors. She has previous industry experience as an engineer within the Australian mining sector, has partnered in research projects with NGOs and indigenous communities, and has consulted as a water specialist for the International Finance Corporation over the past 4 years. In the latter role, she provided technical support to 13 mining companies in Mongolia involved in the South Gobi Mining and Water Industry Roundtable, and recently acted as a subject matter mentor to teams participating in a Water and Mining Data Hackathon. Nadja obtained her PhD from The Sustainable Minerals institute at The University of Queensland and spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Eawag Aquatic Research Institute in Switzerland. She has bachelor degree in chemical engineering and business management, both from The University of Queensland.
