Company: NI Water
Job title: Head of Living With Water Programme
Paddy leads NI Water’s input to the Living With Water Programme (LWWP), which is led by the Department for Infrastructure. This programme is developing a Strategic Drainage Infrastructure Plan (SDIP) for Belfast that has the core objectives of protecting against flooding, enhancing the water quality of Belfast Lough, and providing the increased drainage and wastewater treatment capacity that the city needs to grow.
NI Water is leading on the work packages related to catchment (ecosystem) modelling, drainage area planning and wastewater treatment appraisal. Implementation of the plan is likely to include significant enhancement investment in the six main wastewater treatment works that discharge into Inner Belfast Lough during the period 2021 to 2027, and also significant works on sewerage infrastructure, including the complete replacement of Sydenham wastewater pumping station.
A second part of the LWWP is use the experience gained during development of the Belfast SDIP to develop an deliver an ‘Integrated Drainage Investment Planning Guide for NI’, which will be used for long term investment planning for other large urban catchments in NI. It is likely that this will be similar in scope to the ‘Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan’ process that WaterUK is currently (Sept 2017) developing for water & sewerage companies to utilise in England & Wales during the PR19 period.
